Golden Gate Women's Soccer League (GGWSL), a nonprofit organization, is the largest recreational women's soccer league in Northern California, and among one of the largest in the nation. We pride ourselves in our diversity, with players, coaches, and team managers form all walks of life. GGWSL is a women's league that welcomes cisgender women, intersex women, transgender individuals, and non-binary individuals. Whether you're 18 or 80, there is a home for you.
A small group of women in the late 70s started this league, with the aim to teach, promote, and develop the game of soccer for women in the San Francisco Bay Area. From about 80 original players to almost 1000 active players, we've grown quite a bit! Over the years we've expanded to add multiple divisions, more age brackets, an all-day tournament, and small-sided games.
We are governed by a board, composed of one representative from each member team, and an executive committee. We hold quarterly league meetings with this governing body to shape our league to evolve with the beautiful game of soccer. Check out our bylaws for full details on our rules and administration.
There are more people, more teams and more stories than we have room to tell. And we're still evolving. Here, the players make the league.
